Shafer Announces Winners of Essay Scholarship Contest

Atlanta (March 27, 2015) The David Shafer Scholarship Essay Contest for graduating high school seniors across this state challenges students to think critically about the values that make America great in the hope of inspiring them to carry its great legacies on into the next generation.

With a remarkable 270 scholarship entries, Senator Shafer announced the winners of the essay contest at the Capitol on Friday. The first place winner was Madison McMichael of Columbus High School in Columbus, Georgia for her essay on Teddy Roosevelt. In second place, came Elizabeth Robinson of Ola High School in Mcdonough, Georgia with an essay on puritan reformer Anne Hutchinson. Margaret Shin of Johns Creek High School in Johns Creek, Georgia came in third place with her essay on Abraham Lincoln. Read more…
